Economic Upliftment Project Phase 2 Credit Training Program

After regular follow ups on the Progress of Economic Upliftment Program for Women’s Group, the Second phase of this project - Credit Training Program was launched with two day sessions in each Mackinnon Road & Chengoni Rural Centres from August 20th - 23rd, 2008.

 

   Following  the Leadership / Business Skills / Savings sessions, the Women are now introduced to Credit Training Module.

  The course content was mainly on issues pertaining to loan, such as

  1.  Purpose of applying for loans
  2.  Requirements for consideration for loans
  3. Amount of the loan applied for
  4. Repayment of the loan
  5. Accessing the three Cs: Capital, Character and Capacity.
  6. Completing Loan Appraisal forms

Achievements : 

 It was encouraging to note that some off the women have already started doing small scale business like growing vegetable eg. Kales, tomato, egg plant, sweet green pepper, hot red pepper.

The Women have been visited by the Agricultural Officer who tried to introduce hybrid crops and encouraged them to grow green grams and millet in their area.

Some have started small kiosk to sell cooked food: Chapati, beans, tea, chicken and goats soup.

It is noted that the group savings has increased.

The Concept of taking Loans was easily understood by the group which resulted in the formation of Credit committee. Several members have eagerly completed loan appraisal forms and are looking forward to receive loans so as to boost their present business.

Conclusion :

  1. The Credit Training Program was successfully completed. 
  2. The baseline data has been collected enabling us to shortlist the loan applicants.
  3. Guidelines have been set for the participant before availing the loans.  Credit committee, who will be involved in the selection process along with BMMK EUP personnel, has been formed.
  4. On selection the individuals will be granted interest free loans by BMMK which have to be repaid on time.
