STAFF DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP FOR IRE TEACHERS
As part of Staff development, another educative and successful workshop for IRE Teachers was organized on 17th & 18th April 2007 at Bilal Hall, Mombasa. A total of 14 IRE teachers imparting Islamic Religious Education (IRE) in public Primary Schools at the Rural Centres participated. 
The Theme of the Workshop was Reviewing & Restructuring Teaching Methodologies. The Participants were divided to 6 zones according to their location/geographical positions. Zonal panel heads were selected. Objectives: (i) Improve standards of teaching (ii) Be an efficient teacher having acquired better skills of Assessment / Evaluation (iii) Enjoy teaching and develop desire to continue teaching (iv) Respect fellow colleagues and interact to harmonise their teaching methods. (v) Appreciate and respect the dignity of work. The Participants were taken through the following subjects. (a) Flashback of the previous workshops attended and its implementation phase. (b) Observation report of the visits made by various Officers from the Inspectorate section. (c) Revising of teaching methods / skills (d) Marking / Motivating pupils emotional development (e) Teaching Aids (f) Records keeping – Types of records and safe keeping of records. (g) Assessment & Evaluation 
Participants were grouped into five and assigned to prepare relevant notes/ teaching aids for 5 levels of classes, each allocated to a group. Micro-teaching in groups was presented. Each group presented the teaching and the rest assumed role of pupils for that particular level of class. Thereafter, observation reports for the micro-teaching were presented by fellow colleague (mentoring) and the Facilitators. The teachers were advised on sense of dedication/commitment. They were spiritually developed through ayahs of Holy Qur'an and Ahadith. Finally the workshop was officially closed by addressing all Teachers on accountability, Mission objectives and commitment in implementation of the new skills learnt. |
