Training for Economic Upliftment Module I Bahakanda Rural Centre Bilal Muslim Mission of Kenya in collaboration with International Development & Relief Foundation (IDRF) has moved to the final centre to undertake the program for empowerment of the Local Community and to provide training for Capacity building to the Women groups in the Rural Areas.

The first module of 6 days was held at Husayni Madrasah, Bahakanda from 8th – 13th March 2010. The sessions on group mobilisation, leadership and savings training were held. Average attendance per day was at 40. The main objective of this module was • Building-up of qualities and skills to be a good leader • How to solve problems in groups • Good communication skills • How and where to be cost-effective • Maintaining of records in passbooks, register and monitoring forms. • Basic Savings Techniques and Methodologies • Guideline set for the future plans Activities undertaken during the training: • Islamic Religious Education was conducted on issues of Inheritance ‘Taharatun Nisa’ , ‘Wudhu’ and ‘Hijab’ • Issues pertaining to group formation, leadership and savings were taught through interactive discussions, role plays, case studies and story telling • Group Officials were elected • Guidelines to setting up of women group constitution was laid • Work Plan was set up

Achievements: • The Constitution was formed and rules were laid down. • The group meetings have been schedule for Wednesday afternoons. • The group has 18 registered Members who have started saving The Second module of Training will inshallah be held in May, 2010.
