UKAMBANI RELIEF DISTRIBUTION 2009 / 10 “The one who relieves a believer from distress, God will deliver him from the distress of this world and the hereafter” Imam Husayn (a.s) It is the country's worst drought in years, but comes after three or four consecutive failed rainy seasons in many areas. Food production has dropped and the price of corn, a staple food, has more than doubled. Supplies have shrunk by nearly 28%. "Red lights are flashing across the country," said Burkard Oberle, the World Food Program's (WFP) country director in Kenya. "People are already going hungry, malnutrition is preying on more and more young children, cattle are dying. We face a huge challenge."
The Ukambani appeal, which was launched by Bilal Muslim Mission of Kenya whilst we were remembering the hunger and thirst of the martyrs at Karbala, received an overwhelming response, both from local and international donors. By the Grace of the Almighty, relief food distribution at our three Ukambani centers have taken place. Through the positive support we have received from Africa Federation, World Federation and all the well wishers, deserving families were assisted with food items such as green maize, rice and sugar in the months of December 2009 and January 2010.
Our heartfelt appreciation and prayers to all those who contributed generously towards this cause, May Allah grant you tawfiq to make a difference to the lives of the needy. We request your continued support towards this noble cause. January 2010 |
