The Aftermath of Faza Fire Disaster 
Faza, a peaceful island on the shores of Lamu experienced a tragic event on 5th September, 2009 that changed the lives of the constituents. A fire broke out from one of the houses of this serene island and due to the strong winds from the Indian Ocean, burnt down a total of 430 homes.  |  | The House where the fire started |
The fire destroyed their belongings leaving most of the habitants without basic necessities such as food, clothing and shelter. The electricity poles were burnt along with the wires leaving the entire town in darkness. In order to assist the brethrens of Faza, a team from Bilal Muslim Mission of Kenya visited the Faza Island which was turned down to ashes. Ust. Jamal Abdallah Kasole, BMMK representative, delivered a brief speech to the victims of this tragedy on behalf of the Chairman, Alhaj Abbas Nasser extending condolences and reminding them that during these difficult times they should remain steadfast in their faith and should not despair.
| One of the victims commented: “On that tragic day, most men had gone out fishing and the ladies could not stop the fierce fire. They stared as the fire burnt their ‘makuti’ thatched houses to the ground. " |
With the assistance of the Africa Federation, World Federation and numerous anonymous donors, the following items were distributed to the victims:
