The Annual Performance Evaluation Workshop 2009 for Students sponsored by Bilal Muslim Mission of Kenya, under the patronage of Zainabiya Child Sponsorship Scheme of World Federation was organized on August 15, 2009 at Bilal Hall, Mombasa. The students had to go through different training sessions and their performance was evaluated on academic and religious aspects.
This year the Mission invited all the students sponsored under ZCSS to attend this workshop coming from University, Secondary Schools, Primary Schools and Tertiary Institutions. A total of 52 students attended this workshop. The main objectives of this workshop were: | Ø Assessing the religious knowledge of the students and enhancing it. | Ø Advising them on issues that will assist them in their studies | Ø Assessing their academic performance | Ø Career Guidance: Planning the way forward on completion of their secondary education, what do these students want to do? |

The first session was on Career Guidance conducted by Mrs. Nguti, Head of Science Department and Career teacher from Jaffery Academy, Mombasa. She gave tips on how to choose their future career and to start small business. The lecture was very interactive / participative and the students managed to comprehend the content of the presentation. This was followed by Quran recitation and Quiz. The students had to go through individual test in Ahkamu, Tajweed and fluent recitation that was conducted by Mulla Sajjadali Musa together with Ustadh Jamal on the boy’s section and Sis Sophia Chaka on the girl’s section. The students were then tested on their performance of wudhuu (ablution). At the end of the session the students were evaluated.
The session on Performance contract was conducted by Br. B A Ahmedali and Haji Juma Ali. The students were encouraged to improve their grades in the forthcoming end term examinations.
This year a new item was introduced to incite the moral of the students. Four exemplary students were given the platform to address the students on their experiences and the important role that education has played in their lives. Some of whom are currently studying their higher education courses at different Universities; the other speakers had completed their education. These people acted as role models to the current students.
Some of the feedback received from students about the seminar: ü “Through the career program I have now known what I would like to do in my future and I have to study hard to achieve it.” ü “I liked the talks given by the role models because they showed us that they were like us and we should work hard.” ü “We thank Bilal Muslim Mission for providing sponsorship to us. We shall remember them wherever we shall be especially in our prayers. May Allah (swt) give ability to sponsor more and more students. Ameen.” |
