Theme of the Seminar: Reviewing & Restructuring Teaching Methodologies In the aim of providing Continuous Professional Development (CDP) to the teachers and enhancing their teaching skills, an educative / interactive training session was conducted for the IRE teachers on the 4th and 5th August, 2009 at Bilal Hall, Mombasa.  
A total of 14 IRE teachers who are imparting Islamic Religious Education (IRE) in public Primary Schools at the Rural Centers participated in this seminar. This CPD also created a platform for the teachers wherein they shared their experiences and challenges with each other; this assisted them in enhancing methods of effective delivery of Islamic Religious Education to the students in the primary schools. The seminar commenced with recitation of Duas, testing of Qiratul Quran and fiqh masaails.  
In the climax setting stage of the programme the teachers were given a forum to introduce themselves, express their expectations, fears and norms for this seminar. The first training session was conducted by Br. B A Ahmedali, Head of Department of Quality Assessment and Standards Department (QASD), discussing the topic on the teaching methods and skills. In the second session, the QASD team had a discussion on Teaching Aids and Reference Resources. The Teachers were briefed on the importance of reference materials and the use of teaching aids as an effective tool for teaching.  
Thereafter Mulla Sajjadali Musa deliberated on Islamic Education, wherein he addressed the following topics: ü Importance of religion in the education system, ü Method in which a teacher can help students with basic Islamic teachings ü How the Religious education can be taught theologically so that its full meaning can be comprehended. The participants undertook an assessment wherein the teachers were evaluated on the theory of Religious Knowledge, practical application of Fiqh / Ibadat masaail and personality traits. These assessments were conducted by Sheikh Ramadhan and Ust. Iddy.  
This was followed by a session on Taqibat and Duas conducted by Sheikh Ramadhan and Ust. Jamal. The guest speakers invited from Jaffery Academy, Mombasa were Br. Muhsin Lewa who presented a paper on the Integration & Harmonization of IRE Syllabus and Ust. Nooh, who enlightened the teachers’ regarding, “IRE is not only apply teaching of theory but also to practice the religion”. During his presentation he also advised the teachers on the aspect of emulating good role models. Thereafter the paper on assessments, evaluation tests & examinations was presented by Br. B A Ahmedali. Ust. Jaffer Achui one of the participants of this CPD delivered the vote of thanks on behalf of all the participants requesting the Mission to conduct similar seminar more often. |
