Training for Economic Upliftment Module I Dembwa Rural Centre | In collaboration with International Development & Relief Foundation (IDRF), Bilal Muslim Mission of Kenya has undertaken the programme for empowerment to the Local Community and to provide training for Capacity building to the Women groups in the Rural Areas. After the completion of training programmes in the villages of Kichakamkwaju and Shimoni Rural Centre the team has now moved to yet another village in the Rural Area of Dembwa. |
Dembwa, an small hilly village in Kaya Sub location of Kishamba in Mwatate Division of Taita District with an approximate population of 5000 people. The main occupation is small scale subsistence farming such as maize, cassava and beans, and animal rearing.
The first module of 6 days started from May 11th – 16th, 2009. The training session on group mobilisation, leadership and savings was held at Madrasah Aman, Dembwa. An average of 25 women attended each day. The main objective of this module was • Building-up of qualities and skills to be a good leader • How to solve problems in groups • Good communication skills • How and where to be cost-effectively • Maintaining of records in passbooks, register and monitoring forms. • Rules for Savings • Guideline set for the future plans |  | | Activities undertaken during the training: | • Islamic studies classes conducted on Ahkaam and morals. • Issues pertaining to group formation, leadership and savings were taught through inter active discussions, role plays, case studies and story telling • Group Officials were elected • Rules and regulations were set for savings. • Guidelines to setting up of women group constitution was laid • Work Plan was set up |  | | Role Plays, Case Studies and Story Telling |
