Egerton University Students attend Discover Islam Seminar; March / April, 2009 Print E-mail

EGERTON UNIVERSITY STUDENTS ATTEND

DISCOVER ISLAM SEMINAR MARCH / APRIL, 2009

 A Seminar cum exhibition was held on March 14, 2009 and on 18th April 2009 for  groups of 45 and 30 nos of students respectively from Njoro Campus, Egerton University.  The students were from the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th year of Department of Philosophy, History and Religion from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.  During the first seminar they were accompanied by Senior Lecturer Mr J. Mwangi and on the second by Professor Mwaniki and Dr. Taurus.

After viewing the exhibition of posters on Discover Islam Series by the participants the seminar started with the recitation of the Holy Qur’an.

Thereafter Sheikh Fazle Abbas, Br Haji Juma and Mrs Ummi Kulthum made , presentations on the following topics  :

  • *  Introduction to Bilal Muslim Mission of Kenya

  • *  Islam : Introduction and basic teachings

  • *  Islam and Gender equality

  • *  Status of Women in Islam

  • *  Meaning of Jihad

  • *  Islamophobia

This was followed by interactive question and answer session.
The students actively participated by posing several questions and comments especially on Jihad, peace in Islam, dressing code for muslim ladies and other points.

At the end of the session participants presented vote of thanks and herebelow are some comments:

  • *  The teachings have answered a lot of questions I had in mind; I have learnt the muslims’ mode of dressing and their way of life.

  • *  I have been attracted to the muslims’ way of life.

  • *  I would wish if you would try to reach people outside by external evangelization, preaching morality and reaching schools through such seminars.

  • Gift of books were presented to the visitors.
