Training for Economic Upliftment
Module I
Kichakamkwaju & Shimoni Rural Centre

Bilal Muslim Mission of Kenya in collaboration with International Development & Relief Foundation (IDRF) is undertaking the programme for empowerment to the Local Community and to provide training for Capacity building to the Women groups in the Rural Areas.

Bilal Muslim Mission of Kenya with its previous experience of training programmes held at Mackinnon Road, Burani and Chengoni villages have now moved to Kichakamkwaju and Shimoni Rural Centre.

  • *  Situated on the South Coast, Msambweni District 

  • *  Main occupation: small scale fishing and seasonal subsistence crop farming and diversified business activities.

The first module of 5 days group mobilisation, leadership and savings training session was held at Madrasah Ahlil Kisaa, Kichakamkwaju from 2nd February – 6th February, 2009. 

The team then proceeded to Madrasah Ahlil Bayt, Shimoni Centre, from February 8th to 12th, 2009 for five days.


The main objective of this module was:

  • *  Building-up of qualities and skills to be a good leader

  • *  How to solve problems in groups

  • *  Good communication skills

  • *  How and where to be cost-effectively

  • *  Maintaining of records in passbooks, register and monitoring forms.

  • *  Rules for Savings

  • *  Guideline set for the future plans

Activities undertaken during the training:

  • *  Islamic studies classes conducted by Sister Ummi from BMMK

  • *  Issues pertaining to group formation, leadership and savings were taught through inter active discussions, role plays, case studies and story telling

  • *  Group Officials were elected

  • *  Guidelines to setting up of women group constitution was laid

  • *  Work Plan was set up

Achievements:

  • *  The Constitution was formed and rules were laid down.

  • *  The group meetings have been schedule for Fridays / Saturdays.

  • *  Members started savings; with commitment to increasing the saving

  • *  Savings Passbooks are being used by members
 
 


The Second module of Training has been scheduled from March 16 – March 28, 2009.
